Through this qualification, learners will gain the building blocks required to conduct suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments. The course explores the principles of fire behaviour, legal duties under fire‑safety legislation, and the practical steps necessary to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement proportionate controls.

What does the course cover?

Principles of fire and explosion, causes and prevention of fires, fire protection in buildings and ensuring the safety of people in the event of fire. Crucially, the practical element of the course also ensures that participants can carry out, unaided, a fire risk assessment and prepare a recommendations report for management within most low risk workplaces.

How is the course assessed?

Candidates are assessed with written examinations for each of the two taught units (NGC1 and FC1).

Candidates must carry out a fire risk assessment (FC2) in a real workplace to demonstrate application of the theory studied.

Are you already one step towards your next NEBOSH Certificate?

Unit NGC1 of this qualification (Management of Health and Safety) is common to the NEBOSH National General Certificate, the National Certificate in Construction and the Certificate in Fire Safety. You do not have to sit Unit NGC1 again if you have passed it within the last five years.

None required.

Certification

Delegates who successfully complete the three exams will receive a NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety.
